This appalling antisemitic attack underscores the urgent need for law enforcement and a comprehensive approach to combat rising hate in NYC.
BROOKLYN, NY (01/21/2026) (readMedia)– Today, in response to reported antisemitic vandalism in Gravesend Park, where dozens of swastikas were found spray painted in multiple locations, JCRC-NY CEO Mark Treyger issued the following statement:
“This horrific act of hatred in a park within a heavily Jewish community where many Orthodox children play is a vile attack on Jewish New Yorkers. No child should ever feel unsafe or targeted because of their identity – especially in a public park that should be welcoming to all.
This incident is just the latest in a disturbing rise of antisemitic attacks against Jewish New Yorkers, following another year in which more than half of all reported hate crimes in the city targeted Jews.
Thank you to the NYPD for their immediate response, the Hate Crimes Task Force for ensuring accountability, and the Community Security Initiative, a joint security program supported by JCRC-NY and UJA Federation of NY, for their partnership and continued efforts to protect Jewish New Yorkers. Law enforcement alone cannot solve hate. JCRC-NY stands ready to work with government partners and community leaders to combat antisemitism and all forms of hate and help build a safer, more inclusive city for all.”
In November, a nearby Yeshiva was spray painted with swastikas as well.
