The General Election will be held on November 3rd, 2020.

Register to vote, make changes in your registration

In New York, if you want to vote on November 3rd, 2020 you must register online or in person by October 9th. If you register by mail, your form must be postmarked by October 9th. Check you voter status here.

  • Accessible English Form On-line Once the form is completed, you need to print the form and sign and date it. Then, mail the form to your county board of elections.
  • How to Make Changes to Your Registration (The voter registration form should be used as a change of address form).
  • Change of Party Enrollment. Only voters enrolled in a political party will be allowed to vote in the party primary. Next year, there are likely to be primary elections in many races.  The voter registration form should be used to change your party enrollment from one party to another or to enroll for the first time in a party. A change of enrollment received up until February 14th each year will be effective immediately. Changes received on or after February 15th until seven days after the June Primary will be set aside and opened the seventh day following the June Primary and entered in the voter’s registration record (In other words, if you’re late you won’t be able to vote in the June Primary).

Early and Absentee voting

  • Early Voting Period is October 24,2020November 1, 2020. For NYC Early Voting sites click to: https://findmypollsite.vote.nyc/.
  • Apply for an Absentee Ballot now. This year, absentee eligibility expands to those who are “Unable to appear at the polls due to temporary or permanent illness or disability (temporary illness includes being unable to appear due to risk of contracting or spreading a communicable disease like COVID-19)”. Click here to apply online. Officially, October 27th is the last day to apply online, by email, fax or to postmark an application or letter of application by mail for an absentee ballot. (Please be warned that despite this deadline, the Post Office has advised they cannot guarantee timely delivery of ballots applied for less than 15 days before an election.)
  • Be careful to follow the instructions on the Absentee Ballot. 
  • Absentee ballots must be postmarked by November 3rd and be received by the local board of elections no later than Nov. 10th. Military Voter Ballots must be received no later than Nov. 16th.
