Grant Writer Assistance Program

(to support institutions that have not won a NY State or federal security grant)

Have you applied in the past for a security grant but not received one?  Is this your first attempt applying for a state or federal security grant?

The Community Security Initiative (CSI) Grant Writer Assistance Program can help. We understand that these programs are complicated and even with a completed physical security or cyberbersecurity assessment, putting together a competitive application package can be a challenge. Thanks to the Jewish Communal Fund and UJA-Federation of New York, CSI now has a fund to help institutions that wish to retain outside grant writers to prepare their NYS Securing Communities Against Hate Crimes and DHS’ Nonprofit Security Grant Program application packages.

Who is eligible?

  1. Jewish institutions that are based in New York City, Long Island, Westchester or Rockland and have never received a U.S. DHS Nonprofit Security Grant Program or a NY Securing Communities Against Hate Crimes award.
  2. Small synagogues that did not receive door upgrades through the Community Security Initiative.
  3. Applicants must have a completed CSI physical security or cybersecurity assessment, or TVA within the last 3 years. Request an assessment at: https://www.jcrcny.org/services-requests/.
  4. Applicants that are “prequalified” to apply for grants in New York State. Start the process at https://grantsmanagement.ny.gov/get-prequalified. See CSI’s guidance at: https://www.jcrcny.org/document-vault-faqs/.
This program will support organizations by providing each with a $2,500 grant to pay for a grant writer.  Recipients will be chosen first come, first served based on the timestamp of a completed application. CSI will reserve a $2,500 grant for the applying organization when they have uploaded their “Status History” from the NY State Grants Gateway site (Click here for instructions on how to download your Status History).

When an applicant’s federal or state grant application is submitted, they will be asked to submit proof of their submission before CSI can issue a check. If you have any questions about the Grant Writers Assistance Program, email them to CSI_questions@jcrcny.org.

CSI will send you a check once you send us the documentation that your grant was submitted before the deadline. Click here to learn how to be reimbursed for your grant writer costs.
